tzatziki sauce recipe
First of all, I love hummus. I’ll never pass on a bowl of delicious garlickly hummus, dunking in carrots, bell pepper, or slices of warm pita. But sometimes I like to switch it up and go for tzatziki instead. While chickpeas are great, tzatziki has a nice dose of protein in there thanks to the Greek yogurt. For being a creamy and delicious sauce, it’s surprisingly healthy! I’ve made this tzatziki sauce recipe quite a few times, typically as a topping for something like this easy falafel recipe.

The best Greek yogurt for Tzatziki Sauce

I like using a whole milk Greek yogurt. Look for 2% or 5% milkfat. Fage makes a great 5% version that is so thick and creamy. It’s perfect for this recipe! If you want a lower calorie option, you can use 0% but it won’t be as thick. Make sure that whichever kind you get, it’s plain and unsweetened!

Tips for the perfect Tzatziki sauce

  • Be sure to remove the cucumber seeds before grating. The seeds will make the sauce too watery and the texture of the seeds can be a little off-putting.
  • Fresh dill is so delicious, use it if you can! Dried will work in a pinch but it’ll be more fragrant with fresh!
  • Fresh lemon juice is also essential. The bottles of concentrate won’t do this recipe justice!

I love dipping cucumber slices, pita chips, or cherry tomatoes into this sauce. It’s seriously so addicting I could eat it with a spoon!
