Staying Active Over the Holidays
The first of many holidays is coming up and obviously, I can’t wait. But one thing I’m not great about doing during the holidays is exercising. This isn’t that big of a deal, in my opinion, since I usually have a lot going on, but all of those Christmas cookies can start to add up…
So without carving out hours and hours at the gym, here are a few ways you can stay active, wherever the Holidays take you.
1. Go shopping. No money to spend? Window shopping will do. Put on some comfy shoes and take a walk around the mall. If you’re not truly shopping, see if you can pick up the pace! (Warning: this is not recommended on black Friday… you might get stuck in the crowds!)
2. Offer to help. Did you know that vacuuming can burn burn almost 100 calories in just half an hour. So why not help out the family and offer to tidy up? Be the designated grocery shopper on Thanksgiving. There is always that one thing that has to be picked up at the last minute. Get out there and go!
3. Squeeze in mini-workouts. No gym? Couldn’t pack hand weights? Here are a few workout videos that don’t require anything except body weight! (You could even do these barefoot, if you didn’t have room in your suitcase for tennis shoes!)
Now go enjoy a relaxing week with family and friends!
Yes, the best working out is shopping!
This was just the post I needed, I haven’t worked out at all since before Thanksgiving… oops.
Shopping is my favorite form of exercising. 😉 I also love doing short workouts in the morning before things get super crazy, going on a walk with my family, and multi-tasking (like riding the stationary bike while I check emails and work on the computer). 🙂
I LOVE this! I’m all about burning calories by doing things like vacuuming and just moving in general 🙂
Sign up for a half marathon in Feb. Then you’re kind of forced to keep up your training.
Active = ME! I am always working out, so I never stress about the holidays at all 🙂 I treat them like any other day!
I’ve still got to try Jillian Michael’s yoga. Nick just got the new Xbox which has some of her workouts on it, I will have to check if the yoga is there!
Love all these tips. We don’t do thanksgiving here but looking forward to some Black Friday online shopping regardless.
Ohhh awesome! And her Yoga video is one of my favorites!
These are some great tips! While we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving over here my favourite way of staying active no matter which holiday we’re talking about – is Christmas really this close already again??! – are: runs when I can make them happen (sadly not always possible). Generally moving around a lot i.e. walking to the store for last-minute errands or going for long family walks (one of my favourite parts of every family get-together).
