Eats Lately: Snack Ideas

If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile, you probably know I’m a big snacker. In college, I would often just snack all day instead of preparing a real meal. Thanks to a more structured schedule, I typically find myself eating larger meals, but I still like to supplement with snacks along the way. They keep me energized, and are always a nice pick me up during the work day!

So for a little “What I Ate Wednesday” recap, here are some of my healthy snack ideas I’ve been munching on lately. I hope they give you some inspiration for your own cravings!


I eat breakfast around 7am, so by 10am, my stomach will usually start growling. There are days when I don’t eat lunch until after 1pm, so I always come prepared with something to munch or sip on in the morning. This is what it’s looked like lately:

Some mornings I have an apple, and some mornings I get out the juicer. This juice was practically glowing!Β It’s a nice little boost to my metabolism, and seems to give me plenty of energy! It’s also a great way to re-hydrate after my morning coffee.

Sometimes it’s fresh fruit. Sometimes it’s veggies and hummus. On days when I don’t have a lot of time to prepare a snack to take with me, I rely on protein bars. Sure, they’re processed and all that… butΒ I find that if I don’t have a snack between 3-4, I come home from work and tear the pantry apart. It’s not a pretty picture. Evening Munchies

I used to be a huge night time snacker. Like to the point where I was having trouble sleeping because I’d be so full! Not good. Lately I haven’t been snacking at night (except for the occasional frequent fro-yo trip) but when I do, it usually has more to do with a craving than actual hunger. So I will sometimes have a glass of wine, or a piece of dark chocolate, or some popcorn. I try not to eat too much, because I think it does make it more difficult for me to fall asleep. I haven’t been able to find that Orville Redenbacher’s popcorn recently… so I’m hoping it’s not discontinued. Does anyone know where I can find it? For now, I’ll be making it on the stove, and sprinkling with nutritional yeast.

  1. Oh, I am such a snacker too! *healthy* things I like (but I like plenty of non-healthy ones too, lol) would be red peppers, hummus, raisins, popcorn with nutritional yeast/coconut oil, nuts/seeds, fruit, kale chips.

  2. Your juice looks amazing and makes me want to fork out good money to get a good one!

    I love having apples and yoghurt with dried fruit and nuts, babybel cheese and homemade banana bread πŸ™‚

  3. I love snacking on almonds protein shakes and I also love Luna and kind bars!

  4. Air-popped popcorn is an absolute MUST for me when it comes to snacks. I love spraying mine with a bit of Trader Joe’s coconut oil spray, and topping it with sea salt, nutritional yeast, dill, and curry powder. It is GOOD!

  5. I have yet to try Kefir. What do you think? Do you like? I’m dying to know, haha!

    • I really like it, honestly! It’s super good in a smoothie, but I’ve also just poured it over frozen blueberries and eaten it that way!

  7. I like your evening snacks/drinks. πŸ˜‰ Chocolate is a must after dinner for me! I actually prefer making my own popcorn but I’ve heard the Orville Redenbacher Natural kind is good too!

  8. I snack way too much on trail mixes but I am toning it down. So I either eat a serving of trail mix, have a banana or since it was my birthday week… lots of cheesecake!

    • Hah! I hardly ever buy trail mix because I can eat a whole bag in one sitting! It’s dangerous stuff!

  11. I’m a big snacker too, but lately I’ve felt out of control. Time to reign in the nighttime snacking, for sure.

  12. I LOVE snacking. And I’ve never tried those kashi bars but I love their cereal!

    • The bars are pretty good, and also pretty low in calories (these were 120-150 which isn’t bad for such a big bar).

  14. I’m totally a snacker! Greek yogurt, almond butter, popcorn and veggies & hummus are a few of my current faves.

  15. I seriously need to start making smoothies/juices in the morning. I have so many different ideas on what to put in, but my blender is so loud my roommates would hate me.

    • Haha luckily my roommates are both up when I am, but back when one of them was in school, I’d have to time my breakfast so I wouldn’t be too annoying πŸ˜‰

  16. I really try to keep fruit with me all the time so I can snack on that rather than going for a bag of something crispy. Sometimes it works, sometimes….not so much :/

  17. I am an after work snacker! My go to creation lately has been plain Greek yogurt, a small spoon of PB, and a little bit of honey. It’s DELISH!

  19. I’ve recently been obsessed with making homemade trail mix! It’s just as quick + easy to eat as a bar, without all the processing and extra ingredients. I just make a big batch of cashews, almonds, dark chocolate, crasins + cinnamon and it’s perfect to grab and go! πŸ™‚

  20. Adding ginger always scares me a bit because I’m not a huge fan of the taste, but your drink looks way too good not to try!

  23. I don’t think I’ve seen frozen kefir before, but it sounds absolutely wonderful!
    My favorite snacks include kale chips, fruit, peanut butter filled pretzels, and anything I’ve baked. And I always have an after dinner snack of ice cream/froyo πŸ˜‰

  24. I’m a huge snacker also, I love having healthy options to grab when I am on the go. Frozen kefir has been on my radar for a while and I definitely need to try it soon!

  25. I could (and sometimes do) live on snacks alone, too. I’ve been lovely the coffee + juice (or smoothie) morning combo lately. Just a great fresh start!

  26. I usually snack on fruit, hummus+veggies or popcorn (in the evenings!) I’m not gonna lie – peanut butter is usually a go-to for me as well. I just wish I didn’t eat so much of it in one sitting. We are talking about snack time – not meal time! AH.
