3 Tips for a Successful Dinner Party
This weekend was a bit of a blur, with lots of party-hosting happening at our apartment. I love a house full of people, so this was totally my kind of weekend. Because it was a little crazy, I don’t have a lot to share with you today, but here are a few tips I pulled together from last night. These are my tips for hosting a successful dinner party. Enjoy 😉
Tip #1: Make a recipe you’ve made before.
I whipped up the essentials for these TVP tacos, but left all the ingredients separately, so people could customize their tacos based on their preferences. I wasn’t sure if everyone would want to try textured vegetable protein, but I had black beans, peppers, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, and cheese, so each could make a custom taco.
Tip #2: Invite friends with exceptional cooking abilities, which will ensure that you have an amazing spread of food.
I’m pretty lucky to have so many friends who are amazing in the kitchen. Look at that mango salsa! And trust me, that Tres Leches cake was just as delicious as it looks.
Tip #3: Don’t forget to invite a guest of honor, in our case, Mr. Darcy.
Except for him sticking his tail in my margarita, I’m totally in love with the furball. Isn’t he adorable?
Oh, and just in case you wanted a recipe out of today’s post, check this one out from a new-to-me blog:
Pineapple Margaritas from Gimme Some Oven
Yes, they were delicious.
I love the second tip 🙂 Tres Leches cake is one of my favorites by the way! SO good. I have a few really talented cook friends; however, most of us just cook basic meals – nothing too fancy! I do have one friend that owns her own baking business so I’m always excited when it’s her turn to bring dessert to our women’s group! 😀
Definitely make a recipe you’re confident in!! Never make a recipe you’ve never done before – AH HA HA!!
Invite me next time! 🙂 Thanks for the tips. I have two couples coming over this Friday for dinner. Better to be prepared!
WOW! Look at all of that glorious food! ANd the pup is super sweet, too! LOVE all the pics!
That sounds like so much fun! And everything is so nice when you have guests bring dishes…less stress on you and they feel better to be able to help!
Love Mexican food themed parties! I always try to do something I’ve made before but also try something new. I just love to try out new recipes and a dinner party is always a good excuse to try out some fancy desserts or tantalizing appetizers 🙂
Oh my goodness pineapple margaritas this is genius! Margaritas are my go-to drink and pineapple is one of my favorite fruits so I’m definitely going to try this one. Oh and I love your furry guest! I had a west highland terrier growing up, they are such sweet dogs!
Definitely so true about cooking something you’ve made before! I think having people bring something can be helpful and trying to keep it casual to keep the pressure off is good too!
I’ll take one (two or even three) of those pineapple margarita’s please 🙂
Sounds like a fun weekend!
Making a recipe that’s familiar to you is such a smart idea. Who wants to go through the nerves and uncertainty of trying a new dish when you’re having people over? Tried and true is where it’s at 🙂
One thing I like is to have a prepared pitcher of water with fresh basil and lemon slices in it- that way there’s an interesting, flavorful (and low cost!) option for those that don’t drink alcohol.
