Food Review Friday

I have some exciting blog news! But I’ll get to that in a minute. Let’s just say, my foodie product reviews are getting organized!

For now, let me get to the VitaTop review that I’ve been meaning to post for awhile! I’ve tried VitaTops before in the past, and I love the double chocolate chip flavor, as well as the banana nut variety. And when they came out with the 50 calorie VitaCakes, I was enjoying those as a low calorie dessert. So when they asked if I wanted to try the carrot cake flavor, I had to say yes ;) (Note: I received these products for free, but the opinions are my own!)

Similar to the other VitaTop flavors, these do have to be kept in the freezer. Then you can either leave them out to thaw, or pop them in the microwave for about 45 seconds. I like them warm, because it makes it feel like it’s fresh out of the oven. No one has to know it was just frozen.

These little babies are only 100 calories, but still pack in some fiber and protein. Not bad for something that tastes like cake. If you love a baked good with your coffee or tea, I highly recommend these. The only downside is having to keep them frozen, but they do last a long time!

I used them to make this little carrot cake parfait!

carrot cake parfait

Carrot Cake Parfait

  • 1 carrot cake VitaTop (any flavor could work!)
  • 3/4 cup 0% plain Chobani (or other greek yogurt)
  • 2 packets stevia

I mixed the stevia with my greek yogurt and then topped it with a crumbled vitatop, layered in a wine glass, because it’s fancy. ;) It was pretty tasty, but it’s full of protein and fiber, making it a great option for breakfast!

And now, I’d like to announce a new page on my blog that I’m really excited about! It’s been a long time coming, but I finally have a full page of reviews. I love trying new food and fitness products, so having them all organized for you has been a long term goal, and I’ve finally done it!

  1. Ahhh I’m a vitatop fanatic! I’ve only had them on their own – never mixed or crumbled into anything. I also prefer them in the microwave for 30 seconds as they come out like delicious warm brownies!

  2. Can you review kombucha?? I’ve been reading/seeing it everywhere and have no idea what this is or why it’s so good for you. :)

Okay, based on your recommendation, I’ll finally give the chocolate chip variety a shot, but I need to make them a little less healthy…maybe add butter. Where do you get them?

    • They have them at most grocery stores (Martin’s, Kroger, even Target) but they’re in the frozen food by the “natural” products. The double chocolate chip is definitely my favorite!

  4. Love your reviews because they are honest :) I’ve been wanting to try VitaTops for a while now but the hefty price tag always makes me think twice!

    • They are definitely on the expensive side. I usually stock up when I find them on sale at Target. They’re not cheap for a packaged food, but I figure it’s cheaper and WAY healthier than the muffin options at coffee shops!

  5. Awesome, Liz, congrats on the new section! You are my go-to woman when I want to try out a new health food. I trust your judgment and selections! I’ve been wanting to try VitaTops for sometime now, specifically the dark chocolate flavor. For some reason, I’m suspicious that they’re going to taste really store-bought or that you can tell they were frozen for a long time. I suppose I’ll never know until I try. :)

    • You are too sweet! The chocolate ones are my favorite! I know what you mean about the “freezer taste” in some things but I don’t taste it on these! The only thing that holds me back sometimes is the price!

  6. Reading honest reviews is great. Especially from people I already feel like would be on the same page as me. :)

Great idea to combine the carrot cake Vitatop with sweetened yogurt. Healthy dessert! Happy Friday!

  7. My mom got me hooked on these. For being diabetic, they are perfect when I’m craving a mid morning chocolate break…which is almost every morning at work LOL. I can’t say I’ve tried the fruiter flavors, I’d like to try the pumpkin I saw a while back (not sure if they are retired it).

  8. Look at you getting all organized…

I have really been enjoying my Vitatops. I had never tried any of them before, but I love crumbling them onto my oatmeal. With some maple peanut butter drizzle I swear they are the BEST EVER. :)

  20. Mmm, I LOVE carrot cake! I’ve only tried one flavor of the Vita muffins before…the chocolate one and it was really good! I was actually surprised by how good it was for only being a frozen dessert and only 100 calories!

I love the idea of having the review tab on the blog! I may have to steal that from you! Ha! One MORE thing to add to the never-ending blog to-do list! ;) Hmm, what should you review next? Ohh, I’d love to see a review of your favorite nut butters! I’m always on the lookout for new flavors/brands to try! :)
