New Things: Running, Snacks, & Yoga

This weekend was full of some new-to-me things, and I’ve got a lot to report:

Friday, I ran 9 miles, which was the farthest I’d ever run. I’m right on track for my half marathon training, so it was a great feeling to be able to do that!

Does anyone have some good running playlist songs? I posted my current playlist here but I’m always looking for something new!

Saturday, I tried a new snack which I’m pretty sure will become a staple in my snack rotation.

Lindsay and I tried both of these on Saturday night, and we actually couldn’t pick which one we liked better. They’re only 100 calories per bag, and both tasted delicious. (If you’re like me, and you’re obsessed with Tostitos Chips with Lime… the Lime + Salt popcorn is an awesomely healthy alternative!) Popcorn is also a great snack to keep around the house since you can’t just “grab a handful” here and there. No mindless snacking here!

Sunday, I went to my first hot yoga class, at Hot House Yoga. As part of the Wellness Challenge, Hot House Yoga has given us some free classes, so I figured it was about time I checked it out!

If you’ve never done hot yoga, it’s done in a room between 105-110 degrees, at about 40-50% humidity. Basically, it felt like summer in Richmond. I did really like the class though. I’ve never been a huge fan of yoga (I tend to like more circuit training type classes) but it was nice to do something different than my usual workout, and I will definitely be going back!

What are some new things you’ve tried lately?

Comments

  1. Yay! Good job on your long run!

  2. It’s always fun to hit new distances for the first time! Congrats on hitting 9! Are the big double digits next week??

Also, my newest obsession is The Killers Station on Pandora. It’s amazing. I suggest it since I see a few songs on there that have shown up on it…

    • Oh awesome!! I need to listen to pandora more often, since it’s a good way to find some new music. I’ll definitely have to give the killers station a listen. And yes!! 10 miles this week!!!

  3. Nice job on your 9 miles! I have a 10K on Sunday….that’s my limit so far! :) LOVE Hot yoga…something so relaxing about it–even though you are sweating your butt off! (which is a good thing) :)

  4. Great job on the run. I bet you’re still on a runner’s high from that one!

I’ve been trying to be more handy around the house. This weekend included sanding, painting, and priming furniture. Yeah… not so fun! haha

  5. Ooooo that lime and salt popcorn sounds delicious! I have a slight obsession with the tortilla chip version, just slight ;)

  6. Yay for 9 miles! And for Nike+! That’s what I use too. I’ve always wanted to try the lime popcorn. Glad to hear it’s good and I should!

  7. Congrats on hitting 9 miles! That is a huge milestone (pun intended). I’ve always wanted to do hot yoga but my gym doesn’t offer it.

  8. Awesome job on the 9 miles – woot woot! And I LOVE tostitos lime chips, so I will definitely be picking that up on the next grocery run. I’m not a huge fan of yoga, which may be related to the fact that I’ve never actually taken a real live class… One of these days I’ll give in and give it a try!

  9. great job!

  10. I have tried the Lme and Salt popcorn before. Tastes to chemically for my liking, and a warning do not burn it! Your house will smell gross for days!

  11. Totally forgot about those lime popcorn packs. I was getting them religiously about a year ago and then I think they disappeared. Must find again….

  12. Congrats on the 9 miles! That lime and salt popcorn sounds good! I loooove lime flavored anything lol that and lemon

  13. Congats on the 9 miles! you rock. I AM OBSESSED with popcorn, and I LOVE making my own, too, by popping in a brown paper bag.. then I add my own butter and toppings :) Hot yoga is intense..i went 2. thats it. haha.

    I haven’t tried anything new, I’m boring!

  14. YESS! I love that popcorn! I make a spicy/cheater version with regular popcorn on the stove plus Mrs. Dash fiesta lime. So good. And awesome about the 9 miles! You are going to rock the half marathon.

  15. Whoo hoo! 9 miles!!! That’s amazing. :)

The first time I tasted that lime popcorn that is EXACTLY what I thought: “This reminds me of my Tostitos with lime obsession…” The black pepper is a long-beloved favorite. I didn’t know they were making 100 calorie packs…perhaps it would be better if I STILL didn’t know….

  16. Congrats on the run!

Must go get that popcorn ASAP!

  17. Congrats on 9 miles!! Some playlist suggestions: Too Close by Alex Clare (one of my faves), Wild Ones by Flo Rida, Drive By by Train, Where Have You Been by Rihanna, We Found Love by Rihanna, Blow Me (One Last Kiss) by P!nk, Glad You Came by The Wanted, Titanium by David Guetta. I know, I’m so mainstream. But I only listen to these for workouts and they pump me up! And that popcorn sounds so good!

  18. Congrats on the 9 mile run. That’s awesome. I took a Pilates class for the first time and really enjoyed it.

  19. Good job on the nine miles!! Good luck with the rest of your training.

  20. I love popcorn snack packs, those flavours sounds delicious! Congrats on the 9 miles! :)

  21. congrats on your run girl!

  22. I really need to bust out my popcorn machine more often! Popcorn is so tasty :)

  23. Woah 9 miles, girl! You’re amazing! And goodness me…. Lime and salt is such a great combo – in Mexico they put it on everything for good reason.

I’ve alllllways wanted to try hit yoga but I’m nervous I will feel light headed or something – and I’m definitely with you on loving something a little faster pace.

    Have an awesome week!

  24. The salt and pepper popcorn is really good, surprisingly. I bought it by chance when it was on sale and was glad I did!

  25. Great job with the run!

Lime and Salt popcorn?! Yes please! I LOVE popcorn! Nomnomonom.

I’m in need of some Bikram Yoga! I will definitely go next week…I need to reconnect with my mat :)

  26. Wow nice one on the run. I am hoping to do a half marathon next year and did my longest 9.5k run last week so slowly getting there. So satisfying when you do your longest run.

I have been listening to Keep on Running Ultimate Workout Collection on Spotify which has kept me going recently!

  27. YAY for 9 miles! Isn’t it amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it?! It’s so exciting when you get to those PDR runs–makes you feel like a total badass!

Oh, and I am always a fan of some cheesy Eminem “Lose Yourself” turned up loud in my headphones–perfect pump up song! Also, Black Eyed Peas “Let’s Get it Started” just because it says “and runnin runnin and runnin runnin” –doesn’t get much better than that! :)

  28. NINE miles! Holy Moley!! That is so awesome. I look forward to the day I will be able to do that. crossing fingers. That popcorn is the bomb.com. I havent tried the lime though…that will be next. I loved the hot yoga classes I did in Seattle. There is NO yoga places where I live now and I miss them terribly. It does get to like 115 in the summer though so I guess I could just go outside and do yoga?

  29. Congrats on the impressive 9 miles. If you can do 9 then you can do a half marathon…adrenaline and the crowd will take you the rest of the way!

  30. That lime popcorn sounds fab – and better than my current popcorn addiction, as it’s drizzled with chocolate and sprinkled with roasted pecans… ;-)
I’d love to try hot yoga but they don’t run it round here… glad the training’s going well!

  31. Way to go! I’ve wanted to try Hot Yoga and have thought that maybe this winter I’ll just crank up the heat and do it at home :)
