The 80-20 Weekend

You know the 80-20 rule? Well, I followed it this weekend.

I ate 80% chips, and 20% dip.

Just kidding. Kind of. Saturday, I spent the whole day floating in the water with this girl:

and we basically ate nothing but chips. Ok, and an apple. Good thing I packed an apple. But sometimes, you can’t carry a cooler of vegetables around, ya know?

And since yesterday was the Wholesome Goodness Mocktail Party for Virginia Bloggers… I pretty much had to have chips. No complaints here!

We had a crazy delicious spread of Wholesome Goodness chips, and tons of delicious dips. Seriously, I wanted to just eat Mollee’s pesto dip right out of the bowl. And I DID eat Alex’s watermelon salsa with a fork. I have no shame. I’m also so excited about the bags of trail mix we gave away in the goodie bags. Trail mix is my emergency snack at work. (And by emergency, I mean the first line of defense in the war against co-workers baked temptations.)

I’ve blogged about Wholesome Goodness before, (here) because their products are not only delicious, but the company is super friendly (You rock, Kathleen!) so that’s even better!

Since the weekend was quite relaxed (read: no working out) I’m planning on tackling this week head on!

So the plan for the week:

  • Drink more water
  • Eat more veggies
  • Run more miles

Sounds simple, right? Right.

I do think that taking a little time off from the gym, and allowing myself to eat a little “off the plan” is a good way to keep things in balance and get my excited about hitting the gym, and digging into a salad! Sounds weird, but I swear it’s true!

And if you’re in the mood for some dip recipes, check out these:

What’s your favorite chip + dip combo?

Comments

  1. Sounds like an EPIC weekend to me! And thanks for sharing those recipes, totally gotta check those out! :)

  2. Chips and dip sound like a meal plan to me… Yum! My favorite chip + dip combo is blue corn tortilla chips with easy guacamole (smashed avocado, cilantro, lil jalapeno, lime, and salt!)

  3. What a great weekend you had Liz… and the chips and dip only add awesomeness to the equation :)
I love chips with guacamole, that is probably my current favorite dip, although a flavorful bean one is always good too!

  4. aw, it looks so nice, i could really use some chips right now, yum yum! I think it’s a good idea sometimes to eat something that isn’t super healthy, it really helps me alot to know, that sometimes it is okay to enjoy something unhealthy. I really feel, that it keeps me on track (: Great blog by the may!

  5. Love homemade salsas…so much better than out of the jar! Your plan for the week looks good…when I was losing weight and people asked how I did it, I always replied with the same three things: eat less, move more, and drink water.

  6. Weekends like that are necessary. I guess I can insert here where Mon and I once polished off an entire bag of honey bbq twists. In one night. Like I said- sometimes necessary. :p

  7. I think you’re totally right about taking off a weekend, and then feeling pumped to start the week healthy rather than “ho hum, same old.” I did a similar thing this past weekend; cheers to being focused during the week!

  8. I’m into blue corn tortilla chips + homemade black bean hummus right now. Dangerous combo…. hahaha

  9. Beautiful post!!!

  10. The party looked so fun! I’m so sorry I had to miss it, maybe next time. Chips and dip aren’t so so bad for you and it was the weekend besides. Calories don’t count on weekends right?

  11. i looove chips and dip! you can never go wrong with a good 7 layer dip, in my opinion. i recently found a vegan queso that is absolutely to DIE for, and may have taken the thrown as my new favorite!

  12. Haha love the 80/20.
My guilty pleasure is ruffles and french onion dip. It reminds me of my youth..ahh the good ol days when I could eat that whenever i wanted and never gain weight.

  13. im the same way!!! i love deviating a little bit from what i think is healthy cuz then i get all excited about health eating again!

  14. I’m all about the 80/20 rule!! And ummmm watermelon salsa sounds so so good!

  15. We all need a little time off once in a while! It’s good to recharge. Eat all the chips you want! (Mmmmm … Doritos.)

  16. It sounds like you had such a fun weekend!

  17. Thanks for the shout-out, Liz! I’m glad you liked the dip, and I’m really enjoying my juice and trail mix. Can’t wait for the next VA Bloggers event!

  18. Totally agree with you… a weekend “off” is beneficial every once in awhile. Being healthy ALL the time is boring. Tortilla chips and guac is my favourite chips and dip combo.

  19. Looks like you had a fun weekend! If you ask me chips are the best thing to go overboard on taste wise. Those dips sound delicious :)

  20. Looks like a fun weekend! i LOVE dipping! That selection seems like heaven to me

I like mango salsas the best!

  21. I need to figure out the 80-20 rule! I totally have the same goals as you this week. Must…drink…water.

  22. I am not a bog chipper but I LOVE rice crackers and hummus….and the water! MORE water is always on the table. One can never get enough!!

  23. *big* chipper (d-oh) though I don’t think I am a bog chipper either…

  24. I took last week off too!!! It was REALLY hard to get back motivated today, but now I am and I feel refreshed!

  25. haha chips & dip sounds like a balanced meal to me :P On Friday night, because I had eaten a large snack late in the day (5pm? THat’s practically an early dinner, right?) and then met up with my boyfriend after he got off work far too late, I didn’t want a full meal so when he was craving a burrito, I went with and got corn chips & GUAC for dinner (or dessert?), essentially. It was goo-oo-ood. I heart anything avocado, and this both chunky and creamy guac was perfection.

  26. Ha – I’m going to have to steal your 80/20 rule. I might apply it to bread n’ cheese though. I’m normally not a huge chip n’ dip person unless the salsa is amazing… or unless we’re talking Ruffles with French onion dip. That’s a whole other story!

  27. Hahahahahaha….you should have been there this afternoon when I stood in the corner (literally facing the wall) and ate handful upon handful of Wholesome Goodness Multigrain & Flax chips from the bag you send me home with….

  28. Sounds like a totally spic weekend girlie – and im loving these chips!
