A Public Apology

Dear Yoga,

I’m sorry.

I’m sorry I neglected you for so long.

I’m sorry I secretly thought you were really boring.

I’m sorry I didn’t close my eyes and sit still during meditation.

I’m sorry I didn’t think you could strengthen and tone my muscles.

I’m sorry I let that huge dude in the white pants who kept grunting with each pose, scare me away from class.

I’m sorry I was afraid to admit I didn’t like you, because it seemed like yet another blogger fail.

Thank you for taking me back. As it turns out, I just needed Jillian Michaels to help kick my butt into yoga-shape.

It’s not the 30-day Shred… but I’m pretty sure my body is going to be sore tomorrow.

This dvd is great if you’re looking to get the benefits of yoga (like flexibility, balance, toned muscle) but can’t stand the “slow” parts (for me, that’s the sitting and breathing with my eyes closed.) There are two levels, 30 minutes each, and they do a great job of incorporating cardio with yoga movements. (Think lots of lunging and movement into poses.) I can get my yoga on without feeling like I’m slacking off. I didn’t think level 2 was that much more difficult than level 1, but its nice to have a variety.

Besides, I want to be able to take awkward, blurry pictures like this one, when I’m like 60.

Yoga, I think this is the start of a beauitful relationship.

  2. I just recently started getting back into yoga. I love it! I prefer going to a studio, but just cannot afford so getting motivated at home is hard. But been trying my best.

    • I feel the same way! If I do it on my own at home, I normally feel like I’m going to just fall asleep… Jillian’s workout is awesome though! It’s fast paced and short enough for my attention span ;)

  3. Ummm hello rubber band girl!! I love jillian yoga dvd, because its more of a workout than a breathe and relax kind of thing (which ISNT my thing) I actually have Bob Harpers yoga dvd and it is KILLER. Its an hour of pure hell, so I usually do about 45 minutes before my legs give out lol

    • Haha oh man, I totally need to try Bob’s! I definitely like that the Jillian Yoga isn’t a sit and breathe thing. That’s SO not my thing!!! I need movement, sweating, and next-day-soreness ;)

  4. I always enjoy yoga whenever I do it, but it seems like I rarely get a chance to– I always forget about incorporating it in my routine haha :D
    And I wanna be able to do that when I’m 60 too woo!

    I have tried pilates..found it boring but still dig out my DVD from time to time x

    • I can’t usually sit through (or rather, work through) a pliates or yoga dvd. I just get so BORED! I’m not a sit and breathe kind of girl ;) This one definitely gets your heart pumping! And it’s short enough (like 30 minutes) that my attention span can totally handle it!

  6. Ah I’m not a yoga fan… or I shouldn’t say that. I haven’t found the RIGHT yoga for me. if that makes any sense. Maybe I should try Jillian’s dvd!

  7. haha so funny. I love yoga, but for the longest time I just didn’t get it. I think it helps to find the right class (or in your case video) to really feel the magic. I’ll have to try that DVD!!

  8. augh I used to be a hard core yogini. I remember going to hot yoga classes 4X a week and then slowly I just started going less and less. Booo.
    I’m going to a class today though, I just decided. Time to get back into it :)

    I’ve heard yoga meltdown is killer. I so want it!

  9. I have never really given yoga a go. I am planning to start a begginers basic yoga class this semester at my gym….I just may have to get this video for home use since I sometimes can’t work my schdule around their classes :)

    I’m so not like lots of other bloggers. I HATE running, & i don’t like yoga. But, that Jillian Michaels version just might make me want to try it again. :)

  11. I love it. I don’t do it enough–I was on a pretty good roll there for a while–but I really need to get back to it because I really like how I feel afterwards. School will start soon….kids will be gone..then. ok? LOL

  14. I LOOOOVE yoga! I’m not even exaggerating when I say it changed my life. I’m so glad you’re starting to like it, too. It takes a while, but once you get into it, it feels oh so good. Stick with it, girl!

  15. So maybe this is WAY too spiritual and “new age-y”, but I think we have to be ready for yoga before we enjoy it. Even two years ago, I secretly thought it was boring and not really a workout! Now I’m doing the 21-Day Yoga challenge and it is kicking my butt!

    I also think it’s about finding the right class or DVD. I really like hot yoga and I found the Bryan Kest’s Power Yoga DVD really felt like a workout – those two things helped me to love yoga!

    • The 21 day yoga challenge sounds intense! I definitely think you’re right that you have to be in the right mind set for yoga. I think that’s the hardest part for me! And I definitely want to try a hot yoga class. Those sound awesome!

  16. Good for you for getting back to it! Alas, I errr loathe yoga. But I do want to get more into it, I just get too antsy! Plus I am severely inflexible so that’s never fun either :)

  17. HUGE yogi right here; power, vinyasa, ashtanga, hot, flow, & moksha for me :) I never do the dvd’s though.
    ps. Are you alone at the gym/weight room?

  18. Adore yoga! I’m into the power/strength yoga mostly, it seriously sculpts and reshapes your body, amazing!

  19. I’ve only done yoga once, and I’m not going to lie, I didn’t like it. But I’m willing to give it a second chance, I bet Jillian Michaels yoga meltdown is good!

  20. I’m doing a 30-day yoga self-challenge right now! I love yoga. I’m not sure how I’d fill about Jillian’s yoga. Does she berate you at all? I like the 30-Day Shred, but I’m not sure how that energy would translate into yoga…

  21. Which level did you end up doing? Looks like number two, and I LOVE LEVEL TWO! The wheel is my favorite move :) I honestly hate yoga, unless its the Jillian Michaels DVD. I have the P90X yoga and SNORE. it’s so slow and it takes a lot of patience for me to actually finish it. Have a great weekend!! :)

  25. I always thought it was a bit of a soft option – then did Body Balance and was aching after! I loved it though and you could feel how much good it would do… but I think that dude would have put me off too :-)

  26. hahaha. this is awesome. i feel the same way, i have been putting off trying a new yoga studio for weeks. i’m such a pansy. i love yoga and i feel so good when i do it. sometimes you just need that push… i’m still waiting… maybe i’ll go monday ;)

  31. Love it! I started last September and have been going at least once a week ever since. PLUS I found yoga poses to be fantastic for stretching my legs after long runs. I’m not so into the “Ommm” but I do really love the stretch, the challenge, the connection with my body, and even some of the mantras and ideas behind thanking your body, letting out the garbage, and locking negative energy out and positive energy in.

    ANYHOO it definitely is a great workout, if not the 30 day shred ;) I haven’t tried Jillian’s yoga videos, but maybe I will because I love her! Thanks!
