Vacation Sweetness!

Let me just start by saying I’ve been making a lot of progress on my list. I’ve been relaxing. I’ve soaked up some rays. I’ve read Glamour, Marie Clare, and Quirks. And I’ve definitely sipped [more than] my share of drinks…

This has been the landscape

And Eric and I have had some quality time together!

Not bad, right?

What is bad, is the fact that I’ve been eating pretty much nothing but crap for the past three days… chips, pretzels, sandwiches, um… alcohol?

I did manage to scrounge up some lettuce, green peppers, tomatoes, and hummus…

However, this has literally been my only source of vegetables all weekend. I can practically hear my body screaming for some carrots. Or parsnips. Or something.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s vacation, and a few [extra] chocolate chip cookies never killed anyone. But it does make me realize how much I genuinely like eating vegetables. And how much more energy I have when I eat healthy! Which got me thinking about Alex’s Sugar Free Challenge!

Are you taking the challenge? I’m not sure I’ll be able to do it for 10 days (I’m going to Bonnaroo, and I don’t think I’ll be able to pack proper food to continue the challenge…) But I am going to try it for 5 days! Baby steps, right?

So even though I’m already a label checker, I’ve got a new thing to watch out for! No sugar for this girl!

Are you taking the sugar free challenge? Do your habits change when you’re on vacation?

  1. Good luck on the challenge!!

I always feel my best when I am eatings lots of GREEN!!

  2. How good are holidays? It’s tricky to eat well on holidays (Lauren and I wrote about it on our website last friday actually: http://easythrillsemptypockets.blogspot.com/2011/05/eating-while-travelling-delicious-vs.html ) . That sounds like quite the challenge, especially since there is so much sugar sneakily put into foods under different names and such.

  3. I haven’t decided if I was going to take the sugar free challenge. I think it’s great to start off with five days. At least your trying!
When I’m on vacation I feel like it’s a green light to eat anything I want.l

  4. oh good luck on the challenge! I thought about doing that, then totally forgot. Hmmm, maybe I should reconsider? hehe. Enjoy vacation!

  5. Good luck on the challenge!! I almost always slack off of healthy eating when on vacation too! :)

  6. We just got back from a short Memorial Weekend trip and I feel the same way. Too much snacking & too little fresh fruits and vegetables!

  7. You’re vacation sounds wonderful! And I just did the same, ate absolutely horribly over the week – or nothing at all.. so bad! And now I’m intrigued about the sugarfree challenge… I definitely need a little cleanse after all that alchohol.
But I’m so glad you had a great vacation! Good luck on the challenge!

  8. Im actually doing a juice challenge this week, but I also want to try to do at least 1 day of sugar free each week in june. I think it will be good for me, and a bit tough as well!! I love my sugar, and it is literally in everything!

  9. Oh, I would love to do that challenge! I’m going on vacation of my own in a few days–that might be my goal as soon as I get back home (like you, vacay food ends up being less than ideal–although more than delicious :D )

  10. What a great challenge! I was thinking about taking that challenge but I realized that I sort of want to Pledge Vegan for 30 days. I’m still confused at what I should do…

  11. I’m taking the challenge!! :D

  12. Yay! Thanks for joining the challenge :) I can’t wait!

  13. Oh I sooooo need a beach vacay right about now.
I’ve done candy-free challenges (my major vice), but never a full fledged sugar free challenge. I don’t think I could handle it, or rather the people who love me wouldn’t love me anymore ;) Are you cutting out whole fruit and yogurt and all that good stuff, or just the refined/added sugar?

  14. If I haven’t had much in the way of vegetables I really crave them! Good luck for the challenge :-)

  15. I always eat so much worse when I am on vacation. It’s a nice change in pace, but I always feel like crap after! I’m not partaking in the sugar challenge..I love my chocolate and cakes..one day I will try that! Baby steps is a lot closer than me so high five for that!

  16. you two make a cute couple! I love it. Taking a look at the sugarfree challenge. I’m not sure I could do it!

  17. I always feel motivated to give up sugar after vacation- I usually eat like crap! I don’t know if I could ever do a sugar free challenge, but I’ve cut back on sugar / processed foods over the past week and I feel SO much better!

  18. I’m not sure how I would be able to avoid sugar for 10 days, but maybe avoiding most sugar could be semi-doable for me. You are one brave chick!

I was at the beach this weekend as well! Nothing better than having ones toes in the sand.

  19. I love your green dress – so pretty!!
And thumbs up for the sugar free challenge! I am already living sugar-free and I can´t say how amazing experience it is! More energy, more stable mood and no more fatigue in the afteroon hours are only a few of the benefits of going sugar free:)

  20. My eating habiuts most definitely change when on vacation. I think it’s important to relax and take everything in your stride when on holiday though.

  21. If I stray from my usual diet for even a short period of time, I get sick. I am SO jealous of your life right now. I would kill to be in a place so beautiful! Instead, I am at work right now, writing numbers on literally 3,000 sheets of paper.
    Sigh.
Take me with you next time.

  22. i’ve never done a sugar-free challenge before. the idea of sugar-free scares me! probably because i know how much food has added sugar and i’m a little too lazy to be super vigilant on it.

now that i’ve admitted that, i really want to try it for a week or two. hmm….

  23. Liz, I’m glad you had fun! And, you look beautiful in that green dress. Sugar would be the hardest thing in the world for me to ever let go :)

  24. What a great challenge! I am so envious of your beach time. What I wouldn’t give to be sitting on a beach right now with a cocktail in hand. Enjoy!

  25. What a wonderful challenge! No, I’m not taking part in the sugar free challenge but I’ve got a little budget challenge of my own going on! That beach looks so wonderful and I’m so glad you took the time to relax!

  26. Sounds like a great time! I too have been eating crazy for the past couple of weeks. I am so ready to have a routine again. My sweet tooth is totally nuts right now since I have given into it for vacation/holiday. Hopefully I can get back on track pretty easy.

  27. Good luck on the challenge! I’ve been pigging out ALL weekend! and I have so many leftovers, oy vey!

  28. Good luck girl!! I definitely need to eat all the veggies I can, my vacation did not go well for my yummy

  29. Looks like a great time :) goodluck on the challenge! I’m not sure if I could do that, props to you!! :)

  30. Sounds like you had an awesome mini vacation! good luck with the challenge- I’m a health nut but I don’t think i could ever cut sugar out completely! Thanks for stopping by my blog, and I’ll definitely be back to see how you did with the challenge!

  31. I’m so glad you are having a good time! Vacation has a funny way of hiding vegetables for some reason…Why is that?? ;) You are going to overdose on veg when you get home though and it is going to ROCK!

I definitely splurge while on vacation…Perhaps thats why we don’t vacation much ;)

  32. My eating habits definitely change when I am on vacation but usually after a few days of eating OV style (on vacation style) I am craving some normalcy and go for something green and light :) Sounds like you had a blast!
